THE DRUMKIT

www.checkemlads.com
The Wellalive Tour Van was given an early start on the morning of the 27th February 2006 in preparation for the collection of a Famous Steve White Drum Kit. This particular Drum Kit was donated, by Steve White, to the 'Checkem Lads' Testicular Cancer Charity which Steve is a patron of. The Kit had been used in the Mid 1990's to record 'Stanley Road' and also 'What's the Story Morning Glory' (Oasis, just in case you didn't know), where it was played by Steves brother Alan.
The organiser and founder of 'Checkem Lads', Phil Morris, has been in contact with Wellalive on and off ever since the website was started at the end of 2004 where Checkem Lads was one of the first links put on the site. Phil knew that Phil (too many Phil's) would be really keen to get his hands on this kit, and as it would continue to be used to play Paul Weller songs it seemed the most logical home.
The lads reached Steve Whites London Home just after Lunch time where they then had to spend some time waiting for an answer at the front door. The reason for this delay was because Steve was practicing in his drum studio and couldn't hear the knocking. "This was really surreal" said Phil, "We had our ears to the Garage Door listening to Steve White Practicing his Drumming. As soon as I heard him stop I gave John the nod and he started hammering on the door"
Eventually they managed to get the attention of Steve and the Door was answered by a very normal looking bloke. "This was very strange" said John, "I mean, we were watching this guy playing drums for Paul Weller at the Brits only the other week and now we are standing on his front door step with him dressed in jogging bottoms and a well worn sweatshirt looking like your next-door neighbor who is about to clean his car"
Phil and John spoke with Steve White for about 30 minutes during which time Steve showed them round his Drum Studio and some of his current Drum Kits. "This half an hour went far to quickly" said Phil afterwards, "I could have spoken to Steve for hours although I was quite glad to be going so that I could have a beat on this legendary Drum Kit". The lads then reluctantly left Steve White to his Drum Practicing and transferred the precious cargo back to its new home.
The Drum Kit will be making an appearance at a Wellalive Gig near you in the Future. "I wont be using it for every gig, just the bigger ones" said Phil, so keep an eye out and you may be able to worship at base of one of the worlds most famous Drum Kits.
